Visit of Textile City management to TMA
House, Karachi
A
delegation of Pakistan Textile City management led by Mr. Zaheer A.
Hussain CEO, Syed Asif Jamal, GM Technical Operations along with
Marketing & Sales team visited Towel Manufacturers Association at
TMA House on Wednesday 28th April, 2010. Waqar Alam,
Chairman TMA, Naqi Bari (Ex-Chairman PHMA) and eminent members of
TMA welcomed the delegation from Textile City.
Incorporated as public private joint
venture, Pakistan Textile City is being developed as the first W.T.O.
and I.S.O. compliant textile processing industrial zone at Port
Qasim, Karachi, offering uninterrupted utilities like power, gas,
water and Effluent Treatment plant in an exclusive textile
environment.
Zaheer Hussain gave the project
presentation to the members and informed them about the current
status of infrastructure development. The members showed keen
interest in Textile City and particularly appreciated that Textile
City is the first industrial zone which is taking practical steps
prior to its launch such as establishment of Captive Power Plant of
250 MW on B.O.O. basis, construction of road network and Water
Works, laying of a dedicated water supply line of 20 MGD and
designing of 18 MGD Combined Effluent Treatment Plant.
Chairman TMA Mr. Waqar Alam hoped
that the early completion of Textile City will help in revival of
textile sector and increase in exports. He also offered his complete
support to help Textile City develop as a benchmark industrial zone
for textile sector.

Participation of Textile City
Limited in Sindh Board of Investment Conference, Karachi
Sindh
Board of Investment (SBI) is bringing the public objectives close to
private initiatives. Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) is the primary
investment promotion agency of the province positioning Sindh as an
attractive destination for investment. SBI strives to find new
avenues for public private collaboration, develop investment
opportunities for large, medium and small investors and facilitate
investment projects. Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad Khan formally
inaugurated the Sindh Investment Conference organized by SBI on
April 10, 2010, which was attended by large number of diplomats,
representatives of multinational companies, eminent foreign and
local personalities from business and investment sectors.
Pakistan Textile City Limited participated in SBI Conference as
partner, representing one of the key mega investment projects being
developed in Karachi through public-private joint venture.

Commencement of Water Works Package
at Pakistan Textile City Limited
On April 08, 2010 Mr. Zaheer A. Hussain, CEO Textile City performed
the ground breaking of Water Works Package while Engr. Muhammad
Najeeb Haroon, CEO Principal Builders, and members of NESPAK team
led by Muhammad Shoaib, Chief Planner/Project Manager were also
present at the occasion.

In line with accelerated pace of development, the Board of Directors
of Textile City recently awarded the contract of Water Works
Package to M/s Principal Builders.
The Water Works project covers a 20 million gallon (MG) water
reservoir, 1.5 MG potable water underground tank, an overhead tank
of 125,000 gallons and underground water tank for firefighting
system. Potable water will be treated through chlorination process
and pass through sand filter beds to ensure the supply of good
quality drinking water. The project will also be equipped with
dedicated generators and pump house. Boundary walls will secure the
entire Water Works installations spread over 20 acres. The project’s
projected completion time is twelve months. The project has been
awarded to renowned contractors M/s Principal Builders under
NESPAK’s supervision. A 23 km 48 inch diameter water supply pipeline
for 20 MGD is in the process of being laid by KW&SB from Forebay
High Point to Textile City site.

A delegation of Pakistan Textile City management led by Mr. Zaheer

Mr. Salim Parekh, Chairman of S.I.T.E. Association of Industry
welcomed the delegation of Textile City. Mr. Nisar Shaikhani,
Director Textile City and former Chairman of S.I.T.E. Association
and APTPMA was also present at the occasion.

Sheikhani have been appointed on the Board of Directors of Pakistan
Textile City Limited.
Pakistan Textile City Limited, a public-private joint-venture
corporation is developing the first dedicated industrial zone at
Port Qasim for the textile industry offering internationally
compliant infrastructure. Work on 20 MGD water pipeline, 250 captive
MW power plant, road network, designing of effluent treatment plant
and administration building is in progress while the project is
expected to be offered for booking of industrial plots soon.
Zubair Motiwala, advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh for
provincial investment is a well-known leading business and industry
figure of Pakistan. He is also Ex-President of Karachi Chamber of
Commerce & Industries, Former Chairman APTPMA, Chairman Ministry of
Textile Committee on Reducing Cost of Doing Business in Textile &
Clothing Sector, Chairman SITE Association of Industry, Chairman
Council of Karachi’s Industrial Association and is part of board of
several other leading organizations.
Nisar Shekhani, former Chairman of All
Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA), and Sindh
Industrial Trading Estate (SITE), is a leading textile industrialist
known for his contributions to the value-added textile sector. He

The
5th Annual General Meeting was held on October 31, 2009 in which the
Audited Financial Statements of Pakistan Textile City Limited for
the year ended June 30, 2009 along with the Directors’ and Auditor’s
reports thereon were considered and approved.
The Auditors, M/s. M. Yousuf Adil Saleem & Co. Chartered Accountants
have been re-appointed as statutory auditors for the year 2009-10.

PQATI Conference at Marriot Hotel
Port
Qasim Association of Trade and Industry convened a conference on
“Challenges Faced by Pakistani Industries, Remedies and Future
prospects for Industrialization”. CEO of Pakistan Textile City Ltd.
Mr. Zaheer A. Hussain was one of the keynote speakers. Mr. Hussain
revealed Pakistan Textile City as “A dream into reality” and
informed the audience about the current status and pace of
development of the project. Chief Guest Vice Admiral, M. Asad
Qureshi, Chairman Port Qasim Authority, Jawaid Hanif Khan, D.C.O.

All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA)
delegation visits Textile City

A delegation of APTPMA led by former Chairman M. Nisar Shekhani and
newly-elected Vice Chairman Anees Motiwala visited Pakistan Textile
City Limited office on Thursday. Zaheer A. Hussain, CEO of Pakistan
Textile City welcomed the delegation and briefed about the salient
features of the project.
During the briefing at Textile City head office, the delegation
appreciated the master planning of the project and showed keen
interest in the concept of separate clusters for weaving, denim, bed
Linen, knitwear, towel, apparel, dyeing and for support industries
like zips, button, thread packaging etc.
The APTPMA delegation later visited the site of Textile City at
Eastern Industrial Zone, Port Qasim. Mr. Shekhani appreciated the
pace of development of access road network, construction of
administration building and designing of Pakistan’s largest Combined
Effluent Treatment Plant. The delegation was informed about the
development work on 20 MGD water supply pipeline of being laid by KW
& SB. They also appreciated the progress made by Textile City in
attracting international B.O.O. sponsor for captive power plant of
250 MW with its first phase of 68 MW likely to be commissioned by
end of 2010.
The delegation members hoped that the
early completion of Textile City will help in revival of textile
sector and increase in exports and offered complete support to make

Textile City Issues LoI for 250 MW
Captive Power Plant Project

Pakistan Textile City Limited is committed to develop and manage the
first industrial zone with World class infrastructure at Port Qasim,
for value added textile industries to help the industry meet post
WTO challenges.
Provision of stable power supply is the most essential requirement
for the development of Industry. To accelerate the pace of
development at site, Textile City has recently issued Letter of
Intent (LoI) for setting up of 250 MW Captive Power plant for
Textile City, Karachi to M/s Vasti Power Inc. Mr. Zaheer A.
Hussain, CEO of Textile City handed over the LoI to Mr. Syed Yusuf
Jamil Rizvi, Director Vasti Power on Oct 6, 2009.
Vasti Power is a Canada-based firm with vast international
experience of setting up power plant projects.
The 250 MW power plant is a Gas fired plant to be installed in three
phases, with first phase of about 68 MW, based on Gas engines with
cogeneration facility likely to be commissioned by end of 2010.
Second and third phases will be developed as per requirement of
Textile City.

CEO of Naveena Group of Companies visited Textile City
at Port Qasim.
Textile
City is the vital need of the textile industry of Pakistan; the
establishment of Textile City will increase the growth of value
added textiles and also support the total export potential of
Pakistan. This was stated by Mr. Iftikhar Ahmed Khalid, CEO,
Naveena Group of Industries, during his recent visit to Pakistan
Textile City site at Port Qasim Authority along with Mr. Shahzad
Khalid, Director, Naveena Group of Industries and Mr. M. Ali Sadiq,
Director Finance, Naveena Group of Industries. Mr. Iftikhar
appreciated the pace of development works on site like roads network
and construction of administration building. He also appreciated the
master planning of the Textile City.
Mr. Asif Jamal, GM Operations and Mr. Shomail Ahmed, Sr. Manager
Marketing & Sales briefed him about the timeline and salient
features of the project. Mr. Iftikhar was also briefed about the
development work on water supply pipeline of 48 inch diameter being
built by KW & SB. He was also updated about the progress made by
Textile City in attracting B.O.O sponsors for captive power plant of
250 MW for the project.

PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY FOR TEXTILE INDUSTRY ON VISIT TO SITE OF
PAKISTAN TEXTILE CITY

Ms. RAHELA BALOCH (MNA) Parliamentary Secretary for Textile
Industry visited the site of Pakistan Textile City Limited on August
26, 2009. She is briefed about the current status of Project by Mr.
Asif Jamal GM Technical Department of Pakistan Textile City Limited.
She appreciated the pace of infrastructure developments which were
inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Yusuf Raza Gilani
on June 27, 2009. Pakistan Textile City Limited is heading towards
the commercial launch of booking of industrial plots soon. Various
development packages have been started including Road network which
would enable easy access to all areas within Textile City.
Pakistan Textile City is being developed as an exclusive industrial
estate dedicated to value-added textile products. The project is
sure to attract both local and foreign investors for enhanced
investment in the textile sector in Pakistan. Pakistan Textile City
has been appropriately termed as “World Class Infrastructure”.

PRIME MINISTER INAUGURATES THE INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT OF
PAKISTAN TEXTILE CITY

Prime Minister of Pakistan Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani inaugurated the
infrastructure development of Textile City located at Eastern
Industrial Zone of Port Qasim on Saturday 27th June, 2009. An
impressive inauguration ceremony was held at the site of Textile
City. Prominent among the guests included Sindh Governor, Dr.
Ishrat-ul-Ibad, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal
Minster for Textile Industry, Rana Muhammad Farooq Saeed Khan and
Federal Minister for Port & Shipping, Senator Babar Ghauri.
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani appreciated the efforts of
Ministry of Textile and Management of Pakistan Textile City. The
prime minister said that Infrastructure development was critical for
growth and acted as a catalyst for generating economic activity. The
Prime Minister declared that Textile City will serve as benchmark
project and provide world-class infrastructure to local and
international textile businesses.
Earlier, Rana Muhammad Farooq Saeed Khan, in his address,
appreciated the Prime Minister for his support and interest in
Textile City project. He said that Textile City would be a major
milestone towards the revival of the textile industry of Pakistan.
The CEO of Textile City Zaheer A. Hussain briefed the Prime Minister
and other guests about the infrastructure development. He said that
the land utilization plan, project master plan from Port Qasim,
Water Pipeline funding and Environment Impact Assessment from E.P.A.
had already been approved. He informed that Leveling & Grading works
was 95% completed. Technical advisor for 250MW Power plant had
already been appointed and the pre-qualification of B.O.O. Sponsors
for Establishment of the Power Plant was in progress. “The Contracts
of construction of administration building, consultancy agreement
for CETP and Road works priority package has been awarded to
reputable companies while water works (Package III) will soon be
awarded,” he added.
Textile City is spread over an area of 1,250 acres of land in
Eastern Industrial Zone of Port Qasim and it is conveniently located
at 6km from National Highway. Main features of the Textile City are
one window operation, stable & uninterrupted power supply, water,
gas and combined effluent treatment plant. This project, expected to
be launched soon, will provide world class infrastructure and will
give fresh impetus to the industry by providing direct jobs to more
than 80,000 people. Booking of industrial plots is expected to begin
soon in 2009.

CETP Consultancy Contract awarded

To meet the global compliance standards, Combined Effluent Treatment
Plant (CETP) is essential for the textile processing industry.
Recently the Board of Directors of Pakistan Textile City approved
the award of the Consultancy contract of CETP to M/s NEC
Consultants (Pvt.) Limited, one of the leading, well-reputed
and established environmental and energy consultants in Pakistan. On
May 29th, Mr. Zaheer A. Hussain, CEO Pakistan Textile
City and Mr. Izharul Haq, Zonal Head (South Zone) NEC Consultants
formally signed the contract agreement.
NEC Consultants, established in 1993, has come a long way in
retaining its excellence in diversified areas of environmental
protection and resource efficiency. NEC is credited with not only
designing but also training the management team of state-of-the-art
CETP projects in the country.
A combined effluent treatment plant, with capacity of around 16
million gallons per day, is being designed by NEC as per
international standards. The CETP will be setup in Textile City for
the treatment and final disposal of the industrial waste water of
the textile units located within the Textile City.

Package of Construction of Administration Building Awarded
Pakistan Textile City Limited is committed to develop and manage the

Eastern Zone, Port Qasim, dedicated to help value added textile

In line with accelerated pace of development, the Board of Directors
of Textile City recently awarded the contract of construction of
Administration Building (Phase I) to M/s Principal Builders.
On May 29th, 2009 Mr. Zaheer A. Hussain, CEO Textile City
and Engr. Muhammad Najeeb Haroon, Chief Executive Principal Builders
signed the contract agreement.
Established in 1987, Principal Builders has followed a steady path
of growth in the field of construction contracting. M/s Principal
Builders, well known as the pioneers in BMS concept, has
successfully completed numerous industrial, commercial, residential
and institutional projects.

Commencement of Work on Water Supply Pipeline to Textile City

One of the main features of Textile City, Port Qasim is to provide
consistent water supply. To ensure this Karachi Water & Sewerage
Board has committed to provide 20 Million Gallons per day of water
to Textile City. KW&SB published the tender advertisement on 19th of
Nov, 2008 for laying of 48” water pipeline from KW&SB high point (Forebay)
to Textile City, Port Qasim. The contract was awarded to M/s Shaikh
Baz Khan & Brothers (SBK) which has vast experience in this field.
SBK started the work on 19th of Feb, 09 and the project is planned
to be completed within nine months.

Visit of National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Textile
Industry to Pakistan Textile City
The
Standing Committee of National Assembly on Textile Industry visited
Pakistan Textile City Limited’s head office; Mr. Haji Muhammad Akram
Ansari, Chairman of the Standing Committee chaired the meeting.
The member of Standing Committee attended the meeting along with Mr.
Rana Muhammad Farooq Saeed Khan, Federal Minister for Textile
Industry, Mr. M. Idrees Ahmad, Textile Commissioner and Mr. Zaheer
A. Hussain, CEO Pakistan Textile City. The committee was briefed
about the company and the ongoing development of the project.
The committee was apprised on the fast developing work at the
Pakistan Textile City. They were told that the land utilization
plan, project master plan from Port Qasim, Water Pipeline funding,
Gas connection by S.S.G.C. and Environment Impact Assessment from
E.P.A. had already been approved. The committee was also informed
that Leveling & Grading works was 90% completed, Technical Advisor
for 250MW Power plant had already been appointed and the
pre-qualification of Sponsors for Establishment of the Power Plant
was in progress
After the briefing session at Pakistan Textile City head office, the
Standing Committee also visited the site of Textile City at Port
Qasim and witnessed the ongoing progress of the development
packages.

Visit of Mr. Rana Muhammad Farooq Saeed Khan, Federal Minister
for Textile Industry to Pakistan Textile City
Mr.
Rana Muhammad Farooq Saeed Khan, Federal Minister for Textile
Industry visited Pakistan Textile City Limited’s head office and
chaired detailed review meeting with the management of the company.
Mr. Abdul Rauf, Federal Secretary and Mr. Muhammad Idrees Ahmad,
Textile Commissioner also attended the meeting. Mr. Zaheer A.
Hussain, CEO Pakistan Textile City welcomed the guests.
The Federal Minister also visited the site of Textile City; Mr.
Zaheer A Hussain briefed him about the progress of the development
activities. Federal Minister lauded the pace of development of the
project and assured his full support.
The Federal Minister stated that Textile City would be a milestone
towards the revival of the textile industry due to its world class
infrastructure and would give fresh impetus to the industry.

Appointment of Technical Advisor for 250 MW Power Plant

On
21st November 2008, the management of Pakistan Textile City Limited
signed the contract for ‘Technical Advisor’ services with renowned
consultant Mr. Najam Farooqui for its upcoming captive power plants
of 250 MW at Textile City, Eastern Industrial Zone, Port Qasim.
In
picture, Mr. Zaheer A. Hussain, CEO, Pakistan Textile City is
shaking hands with Technical Advisor Mr. Najam Farooqi.
Mr. Najam Farooqi is a seasoned international consultant in the
field of Power Generation. A foreign qualified professional and
member of renowned international institutes in UK and USA, Mr.
Farooqui has served as consultant for many power plant
projects in Pakistan, China, UK, UAE, Iran, Iraq and Armenia. Mr.
Farooqi has served as a Director in HUB Power Company Board for 12
years, besides being associated as its technical advisor acting as
Operations Director. On behalf of World Bank, he has been
contributing his services for important IPP projects including Gul
Ahmed Energy (126MW) at Karachi and Koh-e-Noor Energy (128MW) at
Lahore. At present, he is also working as a Project Consultant for
different international clients on projects for KESC (SITE and
Korangi Power stations), LESCO (Gas fired power stations) and PEPCO
(Rental Project).

The Environmental Protection Agency, Govt. of Sindh (EPA) has
accorded its approval in favor of Pakistan Textile City Limited
after analysis of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of
project of Textile City which is located at Eastern Industrial Zone
Port Qasim, Karachi.
On the occasion of the Public hearing, Mr. Zaheer A. Hussain, CEO of
Pakistan Textile City assured the participants of company’s
commitment to be environment friendly organization.

The
public-private joint venture, Pakistan Textile City participated in a
big way at Textile Asia 2008 being held at the Expo Centre.
The
attractively designed stall of Pakistan Textile City drew the
attention of the visitors where complete information on this project
was available. Mr. Zafar Mehmood, Secretary. Ministry of Textile
visited the stall and unveiled the Textile City’s impressive model.
He appreciated the efforts made for the projection of this World
Class Infrastructure and wished it success.
Pakistan Textile City is being developed as an exclusive industrial
estate dedicated to value-added textile products. The project is
sure to attract both local and foreign investors for enhanced
